My name is Henry Whitehurst and I am a senior. I am excited to learn how to draw better and be better at Art in general. I think I am pretty good at creating/sculpting pieces. An interesting fact about me is that I buy and resell shoes... @raleighplug.
Day 1 and 2 drawings:
Composition Practice:
The two images on the right are my favorite from the group. I believe these are the most successful ones as they both have a nice focal point and are interesting to look at. I did not edit them.
Activity #2: Rule of Thirds, Golden Spiral, Symmetrical
Each photo changed my perspective by having a different focal point, and made my eyes travel across each image differently.
Collage Project in progress images:
Collage Project:
This is my house in New York, where I moved up and down from this year. The process in making this piece was very, very long. I had to find the right colors for each part of the house and then cut out the sizes I need for each while also trying to make it look collage-like and not perfect. I believe this piece is successful, for example the colors and the type of collage I did and the ending was all successful. But I do believe I could have made it better or easier on my part to start on what is furthest away and work to the closest part, rather than just doing random parts. I feel this piece has a happy mood as it is bright. Overall I am proud of my piece and happy with how it turned out, despite the long process it took.
Scratch Board Practice:
Scratchboard In Progress:
Scratchboard Project:
My piece is mountains next to a big body of water. I made this piece by initially outlining the mountains, then adding shading. I feel the shading is successful, but if I were to do it again I would probably layer the shading a little better. I feel like my art shows a good, calm, mood as it is a nice scenery with not much going on. Overall I feel good about my art work, but I feel I could've done shading on mountains a little better, by not making them all dark.
Altered Book In progress images:
Altered Book Project:
For this project I cut all the pages through the middle then molded them into a shape to make the book and pages look more alive then put a pyramid in the middle because it's an Egypt book. I feel I was really successful making the book look more 3D by taping the pages up and making it look almost cartoon-like. If I were to do it again, next time I would draw on the pyramid before I construct it. I do feel like it shows the mood it was supposed to have and overall I am pretty happy with this piece.
Prisma Color Sketches:
Portrait Project:
I decided to do my friend, Noah. I went through my camera roll and the first picture of someone was who I was going to draw and it happened to be him. So I cropped the picture of just his face and began from there. I feel the sketch was successful and the proportions, but I should've had some more practice with prisma colors before trying to make a realistic piece with them. I feel like it just shows a normal mood as it's nothing that's meant to draw a mood or feeling out of. I feel well about this piece but I just wish I was a bit more familiar with prisma colors before doing this piece.
