In progress The plans for this piece were to have the dollar bill have lots of small details that you would have to be close to, to notice. Also we weren't quite sure on if we would use color or not yet. Some difficulties we were having were trying to get the entire background to this one layer of cardboard.
Cardboard Project We we found successful in our piece was the size and all the details, we also loved the way the color hit, and that the color was only the three major parts. If we were to do this again we probably would've not made the background that texture of cardboard because it took a lot of time, over the other parts of this project. My advice would to be that you shouldn't do to big of a peice but you should do a piece that you can spend more time on and to make better smaller details. Also it would be to tell them that it is hard and time consuming to do that layer of cardboard.
In Progress My plans for this piece are to make two loops, that both are overlapping and also I want to paint either black or white or some neutral color in between. So far I've found that shaping them into smooth circles was pretty easy, but making a gap inbetween in the two is very difficult to carve without breaking it.
Foam Project What I found successful about this piece are the two arches this is because I thought they may break throughout the carving process. If I were to do this again I would maybe add more arches and try to do a better paint job. My advice on this project would to be start slow, and just work very slow and careful. Also that carving with your fingers is a good way to smoothen parts out.
Illustration Friday This week's word was "Transparent" The size on this is 8 inches by 9 inches by 2 inches Made out of glass and plastic The location is on top of desk or counter
Paper Project This project was a paper sculpture project, and my partner and I decided to do a lawn. The process of this was to fold all the paper perfectly, and use at least three type of paper folding techniques. Some difficulties we faced when doing this was that we folded and glued everything down first, instead of painting first. What was easier in this project was probably the folding, it wasn't to hard to keep the same dimensions for each and it was fun.
In Progress Photos for Mug and Plate The theme I chose for this project was "Sea" or "Ocean". For the mug I am trying to make a fish, penis where the opening is the mouth, and for the plate I am doing a seashell, and I will add texture and lines. Some pros of this project so far are that it is pretty easy smoothing things out after I have shaped it. But some cons are shaping each things to exactly how I want it, and trying to keep the pattern consistent throughout the mug.
The process to create the mug was to roll a slab, then make it a tripod, and connect it all in one day. Then I would have to think of a theme to match the shell and the fish together. Some pros of this was the painting, because it was easy and it brought the pieces together, the main con was trying to put the tripod piece together and do everything all in one day.
In progress photos of my pit fire pieces; The process of making these was that one had to be coiled and the other had to be done on the wheel. For the coil I had to make multiple coils and score and stretch each one, while the one I did on the wheel was just a learning curve. The coil one was easier but took a longer time, while the wheel was harder but took less time, so that's the pros and cons for each.
Sgraffito paper project The process of creating this was that we worked in a group and we had to create a story, kind of like a comic strip. The pros of this project was thinking of the story, as it was easier, but the cons were trying to cut out everything nicely and make it all fit.
Pit Fire Piece The process of this was to create one piece by coiling and one piece by the wheel. The taller one I made by making a bunch of coils and then connecting them to make a pot. The short one I did by throwing on the wheel. Cons of this was that the coiling piece was very difficult to make smooth and how I wanted. The pros were the very end and seeing how everything turned out with the pit fire.
Sgraffito in progress
Sgraffito Project The process of this project was that we had to sculpt a plate/bowl by throwing or coiling, and we had to carve into the clay to make a design. The pros of creating this piece was that it was fun to make on the wheel and carving out the lines was pretty easy because I used the kick wheel. A con of this piece was that I messed up the lines when carving and it was difficult to fill them in and redo.
Figurative in progress
Figurative Final Project The process of the piece was the create an animal or human with paper mache, I chose a dog. We had to start with something like a ball or balloon and add on paper to make the shape. For the ears on my dog I use cardboard and paper clips to keep them in the shape I wanted. A con of this piece was that I did not use my time wisely and had to rush at the very end. A pro of this piece was that it was fun and you can still figure out what animal it is.
Frame Project This project was for all the sculpture kids to create a frame, and then the painting kids would make a painting that matches it. The process for creating the frames was the get a slab of clay and then carve out a frame shape. There must have have been some things carved into it, and some things that poke out. Some cons of this project was that the frame kept breaking at the corners by me lifting it up. Some pros were that it was fairly easy once I figured out what I wanted to do.
