My name is Henry Whitehurst He/Him Something interesting about me is that I actually resell sneakers, and have been doing it for roughly 2 years now. I buy and sell shoes from basically anywhere and sell to anywhere (sometimes out of the country). It took a lot of work to where I am now, but I'm proud of it so far. Something I'm good at is once again selling shoes, but I'd like to be good at skating. I recently got into skating around 4 months ago and I'd like to get better. This semester hopefully I would be better at the sculpture wheel, because in Sculpture 1 I wasn't too good.

Finished Wearable Art:
My wearable art piece consists of plastic, wire, and hot glue. I used an old Halloween plastic mask from years ago and added decorations with wire. I hot-glued the wires together along as to the mask. The top part of the mask is to represent thorns/spikes for hair and then glasses. And for the extra piece we had to do, I made a facemask out of wire that can also go along with the original mask. This was also made out of wire and hot glue. This piece does go together and is cohesive because the main part is the wire, and every part, including the extra piece is made from wire. The overall feeling of this piece is spooky and mysterious because obviously you cannot tell what the person underneath looks like, and the white masks makes it come off as spooky. I feel my piece was somewhat successful, although I wish I chose something else instead of wire, it was a massive pain to bench each piece how I liked and to keep it in place with hot glue. It may not seem difficult but it took a lot of time and patience for each individual piece of wire.
Represents Me Classwork: I chose to sculpt a miniature skateboard because I would say that best represents me as of now. I recently pikced it up and it's my new biggest hobby.

Designed pinch pots; sketches and in progress:
Final greenware photo:
I had to do a set of three pieces and these are more functional than decorative. Their size fits roughly between two hands and they all relate by lines. I used lines to show the different shapes and sizes they can look with just lines. For example the pot with horizontal lines seems wider than the others while the pot with vertical lines seems taller. The pot with both, vertical and horizontal, is the scale and the median for each. These pots were rough to make with the clay that I have at home, the clay took almost an hour to make useable by pounding it and slowly mixing it with water, but once I finally got the clay useable it was alright. I did what every pinch pot creator does and that is making a circle and then pushing your thumb inside and spreading out the edges. For the decorative part I used a knife to carve in the lines. I feel thus project could have been way more successful if I had more time that wasn't just messing with the clay to make it useable. For each pot I had to do the process all over and it was very frustrating; but if this process went quicker then I would have spent more time decorating them.
Clay Stamps & Textures
Illustration Friday/ Mini-Project while moving:
The objective of this sketch was to make a tri-pod mug and design it based off the clay textures and stamps made previously in the class. Each section on this mug will use a different texture, as long as the handle, and in between each section will remain smooth and even.
Sgraffito Sketch:

Sgraffito Final Images:
The process for this project was to first make a slab of clay by flipping it and hammer it (or rolling it if you had the materials) to make a thin even slab. With this slab you would place it over a plate you want to you and mold it to the plates form, cut the excess, and smoothen the edges. Then you would paint the underglaze (in this case I had to use acrylic paint as I did not have underglaze in NY) and then carve out your design. I designed my piece based off lines and simplicity to look sleek and nice. I did poorly balancing the black and white of the piece and even keeping correct proportions. I wish I had better tools to do this but was stuck with a rounded tool which made it hard to do corners and direct lines; this is why I believe my piece wasn't took successful. It could have been more successful if I had the right materials and also underglaze to finish it, but I had to work with what I had.
NCMA Inspiring art work:
Jan Brueghel the Elder Harbor Scene with St. Paul’s Departure from Caesarea 1596 14 ⅛ x 21 ½ inches Oil on copper I see a bunch of Europeans gathered at the Harbor. I chose this piece because of how much is going on and how much time this must've taken as there are hundreds of people and then many of things to focus on.
The art breakdown of this picture: Color - Majority of a blueish gray color followed by many others Texture - It is physically smooth with the colors making it look soft while also sort of blended Subject - Subject of this piece is to show the harbor filled with people (history scene) Meaning - This piece is to show how much was going on, and how hectic it was.
Sculpture in the Rounds Sketch and In progress photos:
Sculpture final:
When I finished the boat I set it out to dry early in the morning and forgot about it. A hail storm came by and caused what you see on the left picture. It was almost bone dry, but the hail and rain got the other layers to get wet. The pole was fixable as that had not dried completely yet, but the flag was too hard to do add only clay on it. The process behind creating it tho was that I made a big wet slab for the base and then folded/molded it into a boat shape. Then kept adding a lot more clay to make it smoother and to make the shape how I wanted. Next step was the make the flag pole and attach the flag to the flag pole. I attached the flag to the pole before I attached the pole to the boat. It is inspired by the art museum piece because it is a boat. I feel my piece would've been successful if I didn't leave it out in a hail storm.
Ceramic Jewelry Progress and Sketch:
Final Ceramic Jewelry:
This is a clay set of jewelry, 14 individual earrings, 4 medium sized pendants, and two bigger pendants. The process behind creating this piece was to create 3 different slabs, one for earrings, one for medium pendants, one of larger pendants and then cutting out the desired designed. After cutting them out, the shape alters some so you have to mold it and smooth it into your original shape. Piece uses form based on how all fit the same sort of category, line by each being a shape, texture in the smoothness of each piece, and balance on how they fit the same theme. My plan and final is similar unlike my normal sculpture projects, and I'm glad it followed through this time. I do feel successful in my piece as I went with my original sketch and plan and it ended up how I liked it. But as I see them closer in this picture I could have sanded down the sides better at the end.
Land Art Mini Project Sketches and In Progress photos:
Final Land Art Mini Project:
My piece is a nature spiral consisting of an outline of rocks and pebbles and then followed inside by clovers and grass. I got my inspiration from googled land art pictures that would also do big spirals, but I added my own touch of an inner ring of grass. Land art is easy and fun, but the own downside is all the bugs, especially for me because there was a lot of bees and i'm scared of bees.
Installation Art Sketch and In Progress photos:
Final Installation Art:
I wanted to create something to be hung on the wall and my dad has an old 'ancient ceremonial mask' that he got a while back and I wanted to create one like it in cardboard. It turned out better than I planned, I liked the proportions a lot better than the sketch and I am also happy how the smooth cuts turned out, even as it was difficult cutting the cardboard. I chose to do a piece like this because I wanted to create a simplistic piece of art that could be hung on a wall. My piece doesn't quite have a deep meaning but I think my piece does represent the past and how these will a big deal in that culture.
